What defines a luxury watch?

For some, it is the prestige of iconic names such as Rolex, Omega or Maurice Lacroix. Others focus on the materials—precious metals or gemstones as seen in Cartier or Swarovski timepieces.

Other models excel with special functions—think pilot watches from Breitling or diving watches from Longines, Oris and Edox. Then there are classic names with long-standing legacies, such as Certina or Tissot, whose craftsmanship speaks for itself.

Price also plays a role: what feels luxurious to one person may be everyday to another. On our site, we consider £1750 as the starting point for luxury watches. Exclusivity matters, too. Some brands may not be seen as luxury labels overall, yet their special editions—such as the G-Shock MT-G line or Seiko Presage—are clearly in this category.
