1. "Smartwatch with class!"

   Is love at first sight an exaggeration? Because that's how it felt ....at the 1st sight, I was already charmed by my Fossil Smartwatch. What I like about the watch is that it looks like a normal watch but has the benefits of a smartwatch. When you tell people it is a smartwatch they are pleasantly surprised. Also, I am happy with the nice black colour of the watch. Signing up through the app and pairing the watch was very easy for me and so I was soon 'up and running'. I wear the watch almost every day. Both to work during the week and with Friends and family at the weekend. Handy for checking incoming notifications and sometimes funny to see what my heart rate is or how many steps I've taken in a day. Thanks to the good battery life, the watch also lasts a long time, so I only charge it once a week. The only downside for me personally is that the watch cannot be tighter than how I have made it now, but it is still a bit too big for comfort. Other than that, so far no comments on the watch and I am a very satisfied 'customer'.

   Is liefde op het eerste gezicht overdreven? Zo voelde het namelijk wel ....bij de 1e aanblik was ik al gecharmeerd van mijn Fossil Smartwatch. Het mooie aan de horloge vind ik dat hij er uitziet als een normaal horloge maar de voordelen van een smartwatch heeft. Als je tegen mensen zegt dat het een smartwatch is dan zijn ze aangenaam verrast. Tevens ben ik blij met de mooie zwarte kleur van het horloge. Het aanmelden via de app en het koppelen van het horloge ging me erg makkelijk af en dus was ik al snel 'up and running'. Ik draag het horloge vrijwel elke dag. Zowel naar mijn werk doordeweeks als bij Vrienden en familie in het weekend. Handig om binnenkomende meldingen te bekijken en soms ook grappig om te kijken wat mijn hartslag is of hoeveel stappen ik op een dag al gezet heb. Door de geode batterijduur gaat het horloge ook lekker lang mee, dus laad ik hem eigenlijk maar 1x per week op. Enige wat bij mij persoonlijk een minpuntje is, is dat het horloge niet strakker kan dan hoe ik hem nu gemaakt heb, maar dat hij nog steeds voor het fijne iets te groot is. Verder tot op heden geen aanmerkingen op het horloge en ben ik een erg tevreden 'klant'.

   The Fossil Hybrid HR FTW7027 Smartwatch is a cool and solid watch to look at. What really stands out is that you don't need to charge this hybrid watch much and if you need to charge it, it's easy too, with the magnetic charging cable. What's nice is that you can pair the watch with your smartphone. For this, you use Fossil's app. Dese app is easy to use and very clear. You can choose different types of watch face elements so you can make it completely to your own taste and liking. You can even use a photo as a background. You can also use the watch as a pedometer. The hybrid watch is not as comprehensive as a smartwatch but for me it fulfils all the requirements I expect from a hybrid watch.

   De Fossil Hybrid HR FTW7027 Smartwatch is een stoere en degelijk horloge om te zien. Wat heel erg opvalt is dat je dit hybride horloge weinig hoeft op te laden en als je het moet opladen dat het nog eenvoudig gaat ook, met de magnetische oplaadkabel. Wat leuk is, is dat je het horloge kan koppelen aan je smartphone.  Hiervoor gebruik je de app van Fossil. Dese app is makkelijk te bedienen en heel overzichtelijk. Je kan verschillende soorten wijzerplaat elementen kiezen zodat je het helemaal naar eigen smaak en wens kan maken. Je kan zelfs een foto als achtergrond gebruiken. Je kan het horloge ook gebruiken als stappenteller. Het hybride horloge is niet zo uitgebreid als een smartwatch maar voor mij voldoet het aan alle eissen wat ik van een hybride horloge verwacht.

   Upon unpacking, I was impressed by the beautiful appearance, as I have come to expect from Fossil. Charging went smoothly with the included magnetic charger. Within 1 hour! it was full and I could already start testing it. After downloading the app, I could start pairing the watch, which was very simple. When using it, I did notice a few things. For instance, it has no colour screen and the functionalities are limited compared to a smartwatch. It does allow you to measure heart rate and your steps and e.g. switch on that you are walking. But the choice is very limited compared to the smartwatch. I also find it awkward that it does not have a touchscreen, although it is easy to get used to the buttons. If you're used to a smartwatch, I wouldn't buy this one, but if you find looks incredibly important and want just a bit more options than a classic watch, it's perfect. The battery life is extremely good. I charged it once in 2 weeks and it only took 1 hour. It is a fine watch, but personally I prefer to go for the smartwatch. If you are used to those, the functions are a bit disappointing, but the looks make up for a lot.

   Bij het uitpakken was ik onder de indruk van het mooie uiterlijk, zoals ik van Fossil gewend ben. Het opladen ging vlot met de bijgeleverde magneetoplader. Binnen 1 uur! was hij vol en kon ik hem al gaan testen. Na het downloaden van de app kon ik het horloge gaan koppelen, wat erg simpel was. Bij het gebruiken vielen me wel een aantal dingen op. Zo heeft het geen kleurenscherm en zijn de functionaliteiten beperkt t.o.v. een smartwatch. Zo kan je wel hartslag en je stappen meten en bijv inschakelen dat je aan het wandelen bent. Maar de keuze is erg beperkt t.o.v. de smartwatch. Ook vind ik het onhandig dat hij geen touchscreen heeft, al is het eenvoudig wennen aan de knoppen. Als je een smartwatch gewend bent, zou ik deze niet kopen, maar als je het uiterlijk ontzettend belangrijk vind en net wat meer opties wil dan een klassiek horloge, dan is het perfect. De batterijduur is extreem goed. Ik heb hem in 2 weken tijd 1 x opgeladen en dit duurde slechts 1 uur. Het is een fijn horloge, maar persoonlijk ga ik liever voor de smartwatch. Als je die gewend bent vallen de functies wat tegen, maar het uiterlijk maakt veel goed.

   > First impression: With full devotion and curiosity, I unpacked and looked at the smartwatch, what a beautiful device to look at! It came in a nice luxurious box with a magnetic charging cable (unfortunately without a charger). The smartwatch feels very solid and well-finished, you can see and feel that a lot of thought has gone into this. The watch looks very normal, you wouldn't say it's a smartwatch. Behind the hands is (I suspect) ePaper which makes the text solid-state and the battery life very long. > Experience: The smartwatch runs on Google Wear OS and I used the app to sync it with my OnePlus 7 Pro (Android 10) and that went very smoothly. The app asks what exactly I want to sync and was then ready to use. I then put it on my arm and the metal strap feels fine and not heavy. In addition, the 3 buttons on the side feel very solid. After this, I tested the heart rate sensor while working out and it worked nicely and quickly! I noticed that I quickly start sweating around the watch band which I don't like very much. The battery survived on me for more than a week without charging thanks to the black and white ePaper screen behind the hands. Charging afterwards to 100% was very fast! Finally, the extra functions to control your phone are very nice to use! > Cons: There are no real cons in my opinion except that the smartwatch has little fuss besides the traditional smartwatch functions. It has a familiar classic look and you have to love that. Furthermore, whether you find the smartwatch comfortable when you exercise is very personal. I personally do not find it comfortable when weight training, however, I have this with all watches and that is nothing against this smartwatch. > Conclusion: It is a very nice smartwatch with classic look and composed with very high quality. The smartwatch includes all the traditional functions and black and white ePaper behind the hands which makes the battery life very long! It is a beautiful device with class!

   > Eerste indruk: Met volle overgave en nieuwsgierigheid heb ik de smartwatch uitgepakt en bekeken, wat een prachtig apparaat om te zien! Het zat in een mooi luxueuze doos met een magnetische laadkabel (helaas zonder lader). De smartwatch voelt heel solide en goed afgewerkt uit, je ziet en voelt dat hier veel aandacht aan is geschonken. Het horloge ziet er heel normaal uit, je zou niet zeggen dat het een smartwatch is. Achter de wijzers bevind zich (ik vermoed) ePaper waardoor de tekst solid-state is en de batterijduur erg lang mee kan gaan. > Ervaring: De smartwatch draait op Google Wear OS en heb deze middels de app gesynchroniseerd met mijn OnePlus 7 Pro (Android 10) en dat ging erg soepel. De app vraagt wat ik precies wil synchroniseren en was daarna klaar voor gebruik. Vervolgens heb ik deze op mijn arm gedaan en de metalenband voelt prima en niet zwaar. Daarnaast voelen de 3 knoppen aan de zijkant erg solide aan. Hierna heb ik de hartslagsensor tijdens het fitnessen getest en dit werkte keurig en snel! Ik merkte dat ik snel rond de horlogeband ga zweten wat ik niet zo prettig vind. De accu heeft bij mij meer dan een week overleeft zonder op te laden dankzij het zwart/wit ePaper scherm achter de wijzers. Het opladen daarna naar 100% ging erg snel! Tot slot zijn de extra functies om je telefoon te bedienen is erg prettig in gebruik! > Nadelen: Er zijn naar mijn mening geen echte nadelen behalve dat de smartwatch weinig poespas heeft naast de traditionele smartwatch functies. Het heeft een vertrouwd klassiek uiterlijk en daar moet je van houden. Verder is het heel persoonlijk of je de smartwatch prettig zit als je sport. Ik vind het zelf bij krachttraining niet fijn zitten, echter heb ik dit bij alle horloges en dat is niets ten nadele van deze smartwatch. > Conclusie: Het is een erg fraaie smartwatch met klassiek uiterlijk en met zeer hoge kwaliteit samengesteld. De smartwatch bevat alle traditionele functies en zwart/wit ePaper achter de wijzers waardoor de accuduur erg lang meegaat! Het is een prachtig apparaat met klasse!

   I myself already own a Fossil 5 Gen watch with full smart functionality. My biggest annoyance with that watch is its very limited battery life. So I decided to look at a hybrid. The Fossil FTW7027 looks nice at first glance, although I personally dislike the colour of the hands and the e-ink part. But what I find worse is that when the hands get horizontal when using the menu, they are just not straight. I had already seen this in some reviews. I assumed those were Monday models, but I experience it slightly with mine too. Then it's off with me right away. The controls are really terrible if you compare it to a real smartwatch or phone. There is no getting through it and there seems to be no logic at all. Intuitive it is most definitely not. Personally, I will not be able to get used to this. Initially, my expectation was that the watch would also run on Wear OS (a limited version) and pair with that app. Unfortunately, it all goes through Fossil's own app. And my preference and confidence still goes to Google's more developed software. Also, the functionality of the watch is totally unlike that of a real smartwatch. Things like controlling my home automation or television cannot be done through the Hybrid. Google Assistant is also not present. The smart part all looks less pretty in my eyes (logically) and I find that I do value it (a lot). Doesn't the much longer battery life outweigh that? No, for me it doesn't. Especially bearing in mind that new smartwatches are coming that achieve a lot better battery life. The functionalities I miss, combined with the clunky controls, makes me more likely to opt for charging a bit more often. That said, if you prefer a watch that looks more like a real watch, but still want to track some things like heart rate and steps, it will be quite a good choice. If you want an extension of your phone on your arm, then you're better off opting for a real smartwatch.

   Zelf beschik ik reeds over een Fossil 5 Gen horloge met volledige smart functionaliteit. Mijn grootste ergernis aan dat horloge is de zéér beperkte accuduur. Daarom toch eens naar een Hybrid gekeken. De Fossil FTW7027 ziet er op het eerste oog mooi uit, al vind ik persoonlijk de kleur van de wijzers en het e-ink gedeelte minder. Maar wat ik erger vind is dat wanneer de wijzers horizontaal komen te staan bij gebruik van het menu, ze net niet recht staan. Dit had ik al in enkele reviews gezien. Ik ging er vanuit dat dat maandag modellen waren, maar ik ervaar het bij de mijne ook lichtelijk. Dan is het bij mij al meteen afgedaan. De bediening is echt verschrikkelijk als je het vergelijkt met een echte smartwatch of telefoon. Er is niet doorheen te komen en er lijkt geen enkele logica in te zitten. Intuïtief is het zeer zeker niet. Zelf zal ik hier niet aan kunnen wennen. In eerste instantie was mijn verwachting dat het horloge ook op Wear OS zou draaien (een beperkte versie) en gekoppeld zou worden met die app. Helaas gaat het allemaal via een eigen app van Fossil. En mijn voorkeur en vertrouwen gaan toch naar de meer ontwikkelde software van Google. Ook is de functionaliteit van het horloge totaal niet te vergelijken met die van een echte smartwatch. Zaken zoals mijn domotica of televisie bedienen kunnen niet via de Hybrid. Ook Google Assistant is niet aanwezig. Het smart gedeelte ziet er in mijn ogen (logischerwijs) allemaal minder mooi uit en ik merk dat ik daar toch (veel) waarde aan hecht. Weegt de veel langere accuduur daar dan niet tegenop? Nee, voor mij niet. Zeker met in het achterhoofd het feit dat er nieuwe smartwatches aankomen die een stuk betere accuduur behalen. De functionaliteiten die ik mis, gecombineerd met de knullige bediening, zorgt ervoor dat ik eerder zal kiezen voor wat vaker opladen. Dat gezegd hebbende: als je liever een horloge wilt dat meer op een echt horloge lijkt, maar toch wat zaken zoals hartslag en stappen bij wilt houden, dan zal het best een goede keus zijn. Als je een verlengstuk van je telefoon om je arm wilt, dan kies je beter voor een échte smartwatch.
