Living History: The Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical

Swiss watch brand Hamilton has its origins in the United States and was an important supplier to the American army in and after World War II. With the Heritage models from the popular Khaki collection, Hamilton takes us on a trip into its own history.

Long-term relationship with the United States military

When in 1941, after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, the Americans joined the Second World War, the soldiers of course needed good equipment. In order to supply the military, the production of consumer watches was temporarily halted and all produced watches shipped to the GIs. More than a million watches were shipped abroad. After the war, Hamilton remained the standard issue watch for the American troops.

Khaki Field Mechanical reissue

The Khaki Field Mechanical is Hamilton's original military watch. Now this iconic watch is back in its original form. With a size of 38 mm, it is true to the original. This fine size is compact enough to suit all clothing styles, but also easy to read due to the clear design.

The robust new Khaki Field edition is powered by a powerful hand-wound H-50 movement with 80 hours of power reserve. Because quartz watches did not yet exist in the 1940s ...

Modern color combinations with a military touch

In this new collection, Hamilton combines cool colours in a camouflage atmosphere. Earth tones, green and brown straps and green, black or white dials. All Khaki Field watches feature the numbers of the original design and night vision, thanks to the sand-colored Super-LumiNova® on the hands.

NATO straps

With a choice of leather or NATO straps, these watches are perfect for adventurers and office tigers alike. The so-called NATO strap was developed for military watches. This type of strap goes underneath the watch then loops back to make sure the watch - even if it gets caught on something - doesn't fall off or get lost. It is a simple yet ingenious solution that makes military watches extra strong and to withstand any challenge.
