Why Edox is the brand for Swiss diving watches

Posted 15 October 2020 by Miriam

60 years of knowledge and experience in the depths of the sea

In 1961 Edox launched the Delphin diving watch. The very first diving watch with a double case back, special protective gaskets and an innovative double O-ring that guaranteed an unprecedented 300 meter water resistance at the time. Edox thus set the tone for Swiss diving watches.

The crown with double gasket patented at the time by Edox for greater water resistance is now, almost 60 years later, still used by several major Swiss watch brands. And by Edox itself of course. Not only in the well-known series of Delfin watches, but in all Edox diving watches.

Edox watches have 'Savoir Faire'

Edox's strength lies in bringing function and design together. In other words, achieving perfection in every detail. They call it 'Savoir Faire' themselves. Firmly rooted in tradition, but always progressive. This is reflected in the entire collection, but especially in the new automatic diving watches with which Edox in 2020 proves that it is still a master of combining construction and appearance.

Delfin Mecano - A striking appearance

With the new Delfin Mecano, Edox gives a modern twist to its legendary predecessor. The skeletonized dial shows the automatic caliber 853 movement with 42 hours of power reserve, which gives this watch a striking appearance.

The 43 mm watch has a 12-sided bezel that echoes the shape of Delfin watch cases from the 1970s. By this example, Edox shows that it is always looking for innovation while respecting its own heritage. A watch, not only for enthusiasts, but for every man who dares to stand out.

SkyDiver Neptunian - An extremely waterproof classic

Almost 50 years ago, Edox released the legendary SkyDiver. A robust military watch, which is said to have been especially made for a secret elite group of paratroopers. With the SkyDiver Neptunian, Edox gives this classic from 1973 a modern makeover. The watch is water resistant to an incredible 1,000 meters. It is not without reason that namesake Neptune - the Roman god of the sea - is engraved on the case back.

To guarantee this extreme water resistance, the watch is very robustly built. With a sturdy stainless steel case, 3 mm thick sapphire glass and a ceramic bezel. A built-in helium exhaust valve provides overpressure protection at great depths.

Despite these impressive specifications and a case height of 15.6 mm, the watch with a power reserve of 42 hours does not look 'bulky', but has a modern classic look. This makes it not only a watch for deep-sea divers, but for all lovers of this type of watch and proven mechanical technology.

North Sea 1978 automatic - The Inverse Moon Landing

Edox's North Sea 1978 watch commemorates the 1978 'Inverse Moonlanding'. This was a special diving expedition, in which divers dived an unprecedented 320 meters deep under the icy waters of Norway to map out the natural resources hidden there. With the proceeds, the country has invested in socially and environmentally friendly projects that will also benefit future generations. Edox is the official watch partner of these heroic North Sea Divers.

The 43 mm North Sea 1978 is a robust sports watch that can be worn anytime and anywhere. It is water resistant to 320 meters, a nod to that epic dive from 1978. The stainless steel case, coated in black Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC) for extra durability, houses an automatic caliber 80 movement. The hands and indexes are covered with Superluminova for good nighttime readability. The case lid is engraved with the official logo of the North Sea Divers; a stylized diving helmet, and the words "The Inverse Moon Landing".
