How to be ahead of the game in 2022

Posted 1 February 2022 by James Reading time approximately 5 minutes

It's good to be aware of the latest watch trends. Whether you're looking for a watch for yourself or for someone else, there's no harm in keeping up with the times. In this article, you'll find something for everyone, from newtro (new + retro) to nice and colourful or instead modest and minimalist. What many designers have agreed upon in any case is that positive colours are fitting for 2022. In particular green and pink. Collaborations between celebrities and brands are also becoming increasingly popular. Below, we highlighted some trends that could inspire both men and women.

Watch trend 1: Super stylish with a retro watch

Retro and vintage style are now an integral part of the fashion scene. Nostalgia is a strong emotion and this is often reflected in the products we purchase. Whether it's watches, cars, clothing or furniture; retro is here to stay.

▴ Casio Vintage Edgy CA-53WF-4BEF

One well-known brand with several vintage models in its collection is Casio. When it comes to retro, time is circular rather than linear. History repeats itself, as Casio proves with the Vintage Edgy, which you could have easily spotted on the wrist of a hacker or mathematician back in the 1980s.

▴ Hamilton PSR h52414130

Here we have the Hamilton American Classics H52414130 PSR? Hamilton have managed to bring out a watch that looks equally retro and futuristic. This silver, Swiss Made watch sports a black display with red numerals. The company has given this classic model a new look to celebrate its 50th birthday. It features a hybrid LCD and OLED display and a stainless steel case that flows seamlessly into the metal strap. This digital quartz watch is also water resistant up to 10ATM.

▴ Bulova 96a282 Hack-watch

Less futuristic, but still delightfully retro. The Bulova 96A282 Hack A11 watch has a rich history that dates back to a critical part of history. The A11 finds its origin in the Second World War. American soldiers were issues this legendary watch. The A11 is not the only watch that went around in the US Army at the time, but it was certainly the most iconic. The technology in this watch is nothing less than interesting...

All watches had to have "hacking". This means that the seconds dial stops completely when the crown is retracted. Something that we now find normal in a quartz watch. This guarantees easy synchronisation and accurate timing. In short: a high-quality timepiece that has been passed down from father to son over the years.

Watch trend 2: Fresh, positive colours

It's only January, but time does fly... Spring will arrive in the blink of an eye. With every new season and every new year, we always ask ourselves: what colours are trendy? It's good to keep in mind, however, that everyone has their own style. In the end though, it's important to go for the colours that make you happy. Spring and summer are warm and fresh and this is reflected in the colours that are currently trendy. Some of the colours that stand out for us this season are pink and green. Below, you'll find watches from our range that belong precisely to that category.

▴ Swatch Rubin Rebel SUOR704

Hot Pink!

Pink is a colour that not only inspires but can also bring out a smile. Pink catches the eye (not talking about pinkeye) and it is a trend colour that is hard to dismiss, especially in the warmer months. Have you ever thought about a pink watch?

With the Swatch Rubin Rebel watch, Swatch have combined pink and yellow beautifully. As a whole, the watch is crafted skillfully. A fresh timepiece that is perfect for spring and summer. Although we think the Rubin Rebel can also be boasted in the winter to liven up the dark days. The watch is splashproof, so you can take it to the pool or beach without worrying (as long as you take it off before you take a dip). The dial also features a date display that complements the minimalist design of Swatch.

Lean, mean, but mostly green.

Green goes well with a multitude of colours. Apple green in particular is a colour that you should look out for this year. Green has an unmistakable association with nature and good health. Take a look at this watch from Ice-Watch for example...

Stylish and flashy, the Classic Generation Flashy Green with its silky-smooth silicone strap and round case make it a trendy watch. Whether you are basking in the sun on the beach or going shopping in the city centre, this watch will definitely give a modern touch to most outfits. What's more, this watch is water resistant to 10ATM, so you can go swimming with peace of mind. A fresh watch that you won't take off much, especially in the summer months.

Watch trend 3: Celebrity collabs

What's the deal with collaborations between celebs and brands? Or collaborations between two brands? It's become a recurring theme. You can recognise these partnerships by the x's between their names. Take for instance Swatch x Peanuts or Fossil x Space Jam Bugs Bunny for kids.

Brands love collaborations due to its win-win nature that extends to the fanbase, seeing as limited edition watches are scarce and may increase in value over time. Below, we have highlighted a few examples of such collabs.

Heads-up: Fossil will soon release a special collab that involves a mysterious comic character. Don't miss our blog updates with the latest news!

▴ G-Shock X Kanoa Igarashi

G-Shock x Kanoa Igarashi is a collab that stands out. Already the second collaboration between G-Shock, which always stays relevant when it comes to new developments, and world-class Japanese-American surfer Kanoa Igarashi. Unlike the bright colours we mentioned earlier, this watch is cool, reserved black, so it won't attract the sharks.😉 .

The bezel features Kanoa's signature and a cool graphic of the young surfer riding a wave. The watch is Bluetooth enabled and has more useful features like a tide chart and sunrise/sunset information. Super convenient!

▴ TW-Steel X Blast

It is fitting that TW Steel, a young Dutch brand founded 17 years ago, have partnered with Blast e-sports. It's a brand that strives for both functionality and aesthetics, and that's well reflected in this cool watch.

TW Steel x Blast e-sports is a collaboration that was meant to be. The Maverick MS98 - Wasteland Rebel watch is a fusion that both parties can be proud of. Once again we see dark colours with cool ornaments, just like in the G-Shock x Kanoa Igarashi.

Inspired by CS:GO (Counter-Strike): a classic video game that is still played by millions of gamers worldwide, even at e-sports tournaments. The style of this watch is derived from a skin called Wasteland Rebel that most gamers will instantly recognise.
