Cocktail watches

cocktail.jpg

A cocktail watch is intended to be worn with formal evening dress or as a piece of jewellery at dinner parties or weddings. Before 1900 men wore a pocket watch, for the ladies there were smaller variations that could be worn around the wrist. Yet, for a lady it was considered impolite to check the time because that could give the impression of being bored or anxious to leave. That is why the original cocktail watch disguised a timepiece to look like jewellery. Today a cocktail watch is largely the same as a regular ladies’ watch – the difference is in the way that they are designed. The watch is small and dainty, beautifully designed and often set with precious stones.
