Bulova Accutron

Bulova Accutron watches

Bulova's most famous watch, the Accutron, was first introduced in 1960. Special about this model was the fact that energy was obtained by means of a battery and that the movement was driven by the vibrations of a tuning fork. This in contrast to quartz watches where the movement is driven by the vibrations of a crystal.

The tuning fork - which makes the buzzing sound characteristic of the Accutron - can still be seen  in the Bulova logo today. The Accutron was – after Hamilton's Electric – the second fully electric watch in the world, and the forerunner of the modern quartz watch.
